22.07.2025
Starting January 1, 2026, SAP is introducing a groundbreaking change to its offering. Popular solutions such as SAP Datasphere (a data management platform) and SAP Analytics Cloud (SAC) (a tool for analytics and planning) will no longer be available as standalone subscriptions for new customers.
Instead, SAP is consolidating its services into a single, integrated platform: SAP Business Data Cloud (BDC).
This strategic move aims to simplify and unify the data ecosystem, offering a comprehensive environment for analytics, planning, and AI utilization—all in one place.
What Does This Mean for Users?
This change introduces a new standard in how companies will acquire and use SAP’s key analytics tools:
For new customers: If your company plans to implement SAP Datasphere or SAC after January 1, 2026, it will need to do so under the SAP Business Data Cloud license. This integrated approach provides the full range of functionalities from the start.
For existing customers: If you are already using SAP Datasphere or SAC under existing agreements such as Business Technology Platform Enterprise Agreement (BTPEA), Cloud Platform Enterprise Agreement (CPEA), or Pay-As-You-Go (PAYG), you may continue using the services under current terms. However, please note that any license extensions or new purchases after the mentioned date will likely fall under the new BDC model.
Upcoming Updates to Watch For
Significant enhancements are planned around the turn of 2025/2026, particularly in the area of Seamless Planning (described below). Moreover, after Q2 2026, some older methods of creating reports and planning applications in SAC may become unavailable. Therefore, if you haven’t made a decision yet, it’s worth considering purchasing a subscription and implementing SAP BDC now to ensure a smooth transition and take advantage of the latest innovations.
As Natalia Miernik, Director of the BI Department at KBJ S.A., puts it:
“SAP Business Data Cloud is a breakthrough for companies that want to make data-driven decisions without complexity. BDC democratizes access to data and empowers business users to independently use analytics and planning tools—without needing to involve the IT department at every step.”
In an era of increasing competition and the need for rapid market response, having a platform that brings together all data, business context, and intelligence in one easily accessible environment is a game-changer.
